Get Flash Working in Flock Browser in Ubuntu

Many readers complained yesterday that Flock browser I reviewed about yesterday [here] had one major problem - It cannot play flash content. I too faced the same problem and finally here is the solution:
Fire up the terminal and paste this in it:
sudo nautilus
Navigate to the folder:
usr/lib/firefox/plugins and copy the only file present there 'flashplugin-alternative.so'
to this folder:
Restart Flock and you will have flash working.

  1. Wow, I was doing a post on the same as well. Glad that you did :)

  2. dowsnt work for me :(
I cant copy the flashplugin file...

  3. @ Anonymous
Open the terminal and type in:
    sudo nautilus
then enter your password and then try, this time you can paste it.

  4. wow thnks man
im rather new to linux and i'm still at the newbie stage
but im getting better thx to people like yourself
    thx again

  5. Hey thanks man, simple and works, I'm a newbie in linux, your post helped me.

  6. The above didn't work for my in Ubuntu Ibex. However, coping

to the Flock directory as stated worked after restarting Flock.

  7. "and copy the only file present there"

  8. @Anonymous
"and copy the only file present there"

sorry if I'm wrong, what would be the correct sentence?

  9. @ Dragon: Many thanks to you. You made my day. I was nearly giving up. But now I found the solution for my Flock Flash problem. Thanks...

  10. Hi everyone! I copied all firefox plugins from /usr/lib/firefox/plugins to /usr/share/flock/plugins , but it still doesn't work! Anyone has an idea? I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex 64 bit version. Thanx!

  11. I forgot to say that i've installed the deb package from www.getdeb.com and that it's flock 2.0.3 .

  12. Thanks. Now my Flock installation plays Flash just like Firefox did.

  13. Hi,
    i use ubuntu 9.05 and flock 2.5.
i have had the same sound problem with flash 9.
i solved the problem by installing flash 10 from the adobe website using the ubuntu .deb.
after this i linked the libflashplayer.so with:
    sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so /home/user/.flock/plugins
    and sudo chown -R user:group /home/user/.flock/plugins/*

recognize that the flashplayer from the original ubuntu package is in another path.
i have also linked the plugins from the firefox and mozilla files.

that's works form me. hope you will find this usefull :)
