By default, the Flash player in the repositories is a 32-bit version of Flash. This version does not work properly on 64-bit installations of Ubuntu 10.04.
Someone made a bash script to automate the process of installing Flash Player 10 to Ubuntu. All you have to do is to type or copy-paste the following in the Terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal):
wget http://conradmiguel.com/install-flash.sh
chmod +x install-flash.sh
./install-flash.sh
It will ask for your password. Just provide your password. Restart Firefox and enjoy your Flash Player 10!
Nice but the future belongs to HTML 5. :) Bu bye Flash!
ReplyDeleteBut that future still has some time to come
ReplyDeleteThis didn't work for me. When I tried to run it, it says "line 1:syntax error near unexpected token 'newline'" Has anyone had this problem?

i found this and now all my problems are gone.
thanks alot..
It worked even without restarting Firefox
ReplyDeleteSpent ages last night trying to fix this problem, found this page this morning and it took me 5 mins. Thanks very much for the help!
ReplyDeleteI ran the update, but also needed to disable the older plugin: Edit, Preferences, Manage Add Ons (General Tab), Plugins Tab, Click Disable on old version. Restart Firefox and all is good.
ReplyDeleteWorked for me! Thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteI tried several different things others said would work. They didn't but this was a real easy fix that would have saved me a lot of time if I tried it first.
ReplyDeleteGreat help
I'm trying out Ubuntu 10.04 on my 64-bit laptop. This tip on installing Flash on Chrome was very handy. Worked for me! :)
ReplyDeleteYour a life saver. Worked great for me and I needed it done RIGHT AWAY. Thank you SO SO SO much :)
ReplyDeleteTested on Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit fresh install
ReplyDeleteDidn't work because the source flash file is renamed - removed from the macromedia server or whatever just download the linux 64 bit flash from adobe then edit the python script and change the line eg
tar zxvf flashplayer_square_p2_64bit_linux_092710.tar.gz
to the name of the file you downloaded IN THE SAME DIRECTORY
Not works!
